Anti-Corrosion Principle and Maintenance Key Points of Galvanized Steel Panel Water Tanks

Galvanized steel panel water tanks use hot-dip galvanized steel panels as the main material and are widely used for fire water storage, industrial water, and other occasions. Understanding the anti-corrosion principle and maintenance points correctly is important for extending service life and ensuring water storage safety.
Anti-Corrosion Principle of Hot-Dip Galvanizing
Hot-dip galvanizing immerses steel plates in molten zinc at around 450°C, forming a zinc-iron alloy protective layer on the steel plate surface. This protective layer has two levels of anti-corrosion action: first, physical isolation where the zinc layer completely isolates steel from corrosive media; second, electrochemical protection where even if the zinc layer is partially damaged, since zinc has a lower potential than iron, zinc is preferentially corroded (sacrificial anode protection), thereby protecting the steel substrate from rust.
Galvanized Layer Quality Standards
According to national standard GB/T 13912, hot-dip galvanized layer weight should not be less than 610g/m² (zinc layer thickness approximately 86μm). High-quality galvanized steel panels should meet: uniform zinc layer without missed plating or bubbles; zinc layer firmly bonded to substrate, not peeling when bent 180°; rust prevention life not less than 15 years in industrial atmospheric environments.
Pre-Installation Inspection Points
Before installing galvanized water tanks, carefully check: whether panels have obvious galvanized layer defects or scratches; whether connecting bolts are galvanized or stainless steel; whether sealing gaskets are food-grade non-toxic material; whether anti-corrosion paint treatment has been applied to frame welding areas.
Daily Maintenance Recommendations
Regular maintenance is key to ensuring galvanized water tank service life: at least one internal cleaning per year to remove deposits; check bolt tightness and re-tighten promptly; for rusted areas, repair with anti-rust paint promptly; keep tank ventilation holes unobstructed to prevent negative pressure damage.
Professional inspection every 3-5 years is recommended, including wall thickness measurement and anti-corrosion layer inspection. Beijing Yuanhui provides full-series galvanized water tank maintenance services to ensure long-term stable operation.
